The mayor of Palmas, Eduardo Siqueira Campos (Somos), was arrested on the morning of Friday (27) during the tenth phase of Operation Sisamnes, the Federal Police. The lawsuit investigates the leakage of confidential information from the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), allegedly used to protect political allies and frustrate ongoing operations. The order of pre-trial detention was issued by Minister Cristiano Zanin of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), and had a favorable opinion of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR).
In addition to the mayor, lawyer Antonio Ianowich Filho and civil police officer Marco Augusto Velasco Nascimento Albernaz were also arrested. The operation served three pre -trial detention warrants and three search and seizure in Palmas, Tocantins. Among the authorized measures are the removal of public functions, the prohibition of contact between the investigated and the exit of the country. Authorities point out that leaks compromised the success of actions of the Federal Police.
The investigation indicates that confidential information was being accessed in advance and passed on by an alleged criminal organization formed by public agents, lawyers and external operators. Eduardo Siqueira had already been the target of the operation in May, during the ninth phase of Sisamnes. At the time, searches were performed at his residence, and his removal from office was requested, a request that was denied by the STF.
The mayor is investigated for allegedly passing on information to lawyer Thiago Marcos Barbosa, nephew of Governor Wanderlei Barbosa (Republicans), who has been in prison since March. Despite denying the transfer of confidential data, Eduardo admitted to maintaining a relationship of affection with the lawyer and only indicated a defender for him. Even so, intercepted dialogues suggest that the mayor had access to STJ internal information and mentioned having a source in court.
