Venezuela dictator, Nicolás Maduro, accused on Monday (23), during his weekly program “Con Maduro+”, which is broadcast on state television, El Salvador’s president, Nayib Bukele, of being a “serial human rights violating” due to the arrest of hundreds of Venezuelans in saved territory. The statement was made while Maduro commented on the situation of US criminal migrants to prison in the Central American country.
According to Maduro himself, “252 Venezuelan migrant workers would be arrested illegally” at the Terrorism Confinement Center (Cecot), a megaprinion built by the Bukele government in 2023 to isolate members of gangs and criminal groups.
Maduro stated that these Venezuelans were “kidnapped, hidden and put in a prison, without formal accusations, without the right to defense or access to legal representation.” He also added that the Venezuelans sent to El Salvador “did not face due process or committed any offenses.”
During his speech, the Chavista dictator traced a comparison between Bukele and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying that both are “human rights violators.”
“Bukele is like Netanyahu, a serial human rights violator,” he said.
While accusing Bukele for arresting criminals in El Salvador, Maduro is the target of reports of international human rights organizations, pointing out that the Chavista dictator maintains a regime marked by murders, forced disappearances and arbitrary arrests in Venezuela. According to a report released in April by Human Rights Watch, the mature regime was held responsible for serious human rights violations and arbitrary arrests of thousands of opponents, especially after the 2024 frauduated elections.
