The Israeli Foreign Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused on Friday (27) the United Nations (UN) of acting to undermine Israeli and Americans for humanitarian aid distribution in the Gaza Strip, stating that the organization would be, in practice, favoring the terrorist group Hamas. The statement was published by the Israeli government on social network X, in response to criticism made by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who qualified the system supported by Israel and the United States as “insecure” and responsible for civilian deaths.
Guterres said publicly on Friday that the humanitarian aid operation coordinated by Israel and the United States in Gaza endangers the local population. “It’s inherently insecure … It’s killing people,” said UN Secretary-General, adding, “People are being killed simply for trying to feed themselves and their families. The search for food should never be a death sentence.”
In an official statement, Israel’s Foreign Ministry countered criticism and held the UN responsible for trying to undermine the humanitarian initiative, known as Humanitarian Foundation Gaza (GHF), which, according to the Israeli government, has provided more than 46 million meals directly to Palestinian civilians since the beginning of the operation.
“Gulpting Israel for the UN’s failures and the acts of Hamas is a deliberate tactic,” said the Israeli government.
The Israeli publication argues that the humanitarian aid operation conducted by the country and the US ensures that food and supplies arrive directly to the civilian population of Gaza, without being diverted to Hamas terrorists. According to the Israeli government, the UN would be, with the statements of Guterres, “doing everything to its power to oppose this effort” and, by adopting this posture, ends up “aligning with Hamas, which also tries to sabotage the humanitarian operations of GHF.”
The ministry stated that the defense forces of Israel (FDI), who operate in Gaza, are unaware of the Palestinian enclave civilians and that, contrary to what is alleged by Guterres, it aims to destroy the military capabilities of Hamas and their terrorists. In the same publication, Israel said it is Hamas who is attacking and murdering GHF humanitarian workers, a crime that, according to the text, “the UN never condemned.” The Israeli government also says civilians trying to receive the help of Israel are being murdered by the terrorists.
The note ends up questioning the UN’s stance, suggesting that the organization needs to decide whether to “maintain its monopoly and a system that benefits Hamas – thus prolonging war – or if it is really interested in delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza’s civilians.”
