by Marcelo Moreira

Brigadier General Abdolrahim Mousavi, appointed Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Iran after the death of Major General Mohammad Baqri in an Israeli military operation last week, said on Monday that the United States openly entered the war with the weekend attacks.

Quoted by the Iranian state media, Mousavi stated that “the United States entered open and directly in the war on violating the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran breaking the sacred soil of our homeland” and therefore the government of Donald Trump “has opened the doors for the armed forces to take any action.”

Some of Iran’s possible targets to retaliate the recent attacks on the United States are military bases and embassies in the Middle East.

Another military man quoted by Tehran’s media, Colonel Ibrahim Zolfaghari, who is a spokesman for an Islamic Revolutionary Guarding company, said Trump’s attacks authorized the conflict throughout the Middle East. “The attacks expand the scope of legitimate and diverse targets to the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, paving the way for a broader conflict in the region.”

Prior to the military statement, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz had already informed that the army was attacking “targets of the regime and forces of government repression” in Tehran with “an unprecedented force.”

In a later statement, the Army confirmed that it attacked “Revolutionary Guard and Asset Centers of Command and Assets” in Tehran, including the Basich Volunteer Paramilitan Strength and the Organization’s internal security body.

According to military sources cited by the newspaper The Times of Israelthe Israeli army estimates that a large number of members of the revolutionary guard were killed in the bombing.

The Israeli Ministry of Defense also confirmed on Monday an attack on Evin’s arrest in Tehran, and said this is a response to Iran’s latest attacks on Israel.
