Iran’s atomic energy agency announced on Tuesday that the country is ready to resume uranium enrichment as part of its nuclear program, 12 days after Israel begins to bombard Iranian nuclear facilities amid a fragile ceasefire.
“Iran’s nuclear program will be resumed without interruption and we are ready to restart enrichment – our program will not stop,” the agency said, according to the Iranian press.
The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (AIEA), Rafael Grossi, praised on Tuesday the ceasefire reached between Israel and Iran and called for the resumption of cooperation with the agency he runs.
In a message published on Social Network X, the Argentine diplomat said he had written to Iran’s Foreign Minister Araqchi, whom he proposed a “soon” meeting, emphasizing that this step “could lead to a diplomatic solution to the long -time dispute over the nuclear program.”
United States President Donald Trump announced this morning that Israel and Iran had agreed with a ceasefire, which both countries confirmed, although Tel Aviv and Tehran were mutually accused of launching new attacks shortly thereafter.
The region has seen a climb of violence since June 13, when Israel began an offensive against Iran’s military and nuclear facilities in a series of attacks that were answered by Iran.
The tensions increased when the US joined the attacks on Iranian territory over the weekend, bombing three nuclear facilities in Iran, an aggression that the Islamic country responded by attacking the American Al-Eude Base in Qatar, the largest in the Middle East on Monday.
AIEA inspectors have verified and monitored the Iranian nuclear program for over two decades, but so far have failed to guarantee their peaceful nature due to the lack of Iran’s lack of total cooperation and transparency.
