Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid confirmed on Tuesday (24) everything he said in the award-winning denunciation of the coup attempt. At a caress conducted by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, rapporteur of the criminal action on the coup plot, Cid and General Braga Netto were face to face for more than 1h30 this morning.
The procedure, which sought to clarify contradictions between the versions presented in the defendants’ statements, was made at the request of the defense of the former Minister of Defense and the Jair Bolsonaro Government Civil House. Braga Netto accuses the former assistant of the former president of lying in his statements.
In the Supreme Federal Court (STF), Mauro Cid reaffirmed that he received from the general a bag with cash in the palace of Dawn in Brasilia (DF). According to Lieutenant Colonel, the money was in a sealed wine package. Cid said he assumed that there was a large amount for the weight of the package, as he did not see the content.
The military claimed that he did not mention the episode in his first statement because he was shaken by the arrest of colleagues. He also stated that he does not remember the exact place inside the palace where he received the packaging, but cited three possibilities: the private garage, the room of the aid or the parking lot next to the pool.
Braga Netto denied that he has made any delivery of values. According to the general, in conversation with Cid in Dawn, Lieutenant Colonel mentioned the need to obtain resources from the Liberal Party (PL). The former minister said he only forwarded the request to the party, but the request was refused.
The contradiction between the two defendants remains, given that Cid reaffirmed that Braga Netto told him that he would achieve the amount by alternative means and later handed over the money to the presidential residence.
At another point in his statements to the Federal Police (PF), Mauro Cid said a plan to monitor and murder authorities, called “green and yellow dagger”, was discussed at the general’s house. Braga Netto denies the accusations and says the meeting was unexpected and no break was discussed.
Although the hearing was closed, by Moraes determination, the STF published the minutes of the caress. The lawyers of the deponents, the Attorney General of the Republic, were able to follow the hearing, Paulo Gonet, author of the complaint about the attempted coup, Minister Luiz Fux, as a member of the first class, and the defense of six other defendants, including former President Jair Bolsonaro.
During the procedure, the defense of Braga Netto requested that the caressing be recorded, but Minister Alexandre de Moraes vetoed the request. The rapporteur stated that Providence aimed to avoid improper pressures and leaks of information that may compromise criminal action.
Braga Netto has been under arrest since December last year on charges of obstructing the investigation into the attempted coup and trying to obtain details of the testimonies of the ICD denunciation.
Shortly thereafter to the interiming of Mauro Cid and Braga Netto, a second took place between former Bolsonaro government minister Anderson Torres and then army commander General Freire Gomes. The first is part of the so-called “crucial nucleus”, appointed by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), and the second is one of the main witnesses of the process.
The defense of Torres requested the caressing under the justification of clarifying points as essential of the testimony of Freire Gomes. The audience lasted about an hour.
