The day after the announcement of ceasefire in the war between Israel and Iran, made during the night of Monday (23), the president of the United States, Donald Trump, performed decisively to contain a new climb of the conflict between the two countries. Through posts on his social network, Truth Social, and calls, the US president issued public orders to press Israeli and Iranian authorities not to make new attacks while the truce was put to the test.
Trump’s movements began in the early hours of Tuesday, when the Israeli government accused Iran of violating the ceasefire ongoing with the release of missiles, while Tehran denied such an attack and replied that he had actually been the target of Israeli investers after the start of the truce, which officially began at 1 am on Tuesday. The exchange of accusations increased considerably a risk of resumption of confrontation between the two countries.
Faced with this scenario, Trump accompanied each movement in real time and decided to intervene publicly through social networks in the exchange of accusations. Upon learning that Israel had sent combat planes to attack Iran, in what would be an answer against the alleged Iranian attacks, the US president posted the following message in Truth Social: “Israel, don’t release these bombs. If you do it, it will be a serious violation. Bring your riders back home now.”
The answer came immediately. After Trump’s post, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office announced that he had spoken by telephone with the US president and, after that, confirmed that the country had interrupted all air operations that were underway against Iran.
The action was reported by Trump in another post on the social Truth, where he confirmed the Israeli retreat announcing that the ceasefire was officially in force.
“Israel will not attack Iran. All aircraft will be turned and return home, making a friendly ‘Plane Wave’ to Iran. No one will get hurt, the ceasefire is in force! Thanks for his attention! Donald J. Trump, president of the United States,” wrote the Republican.
Through social networks, Trump continued to keep the pressure over both sides throughout the day. In one of his publications in the social truth, the US president made a point of reiterating that Iran’s nuclear program had been totally destroyed.
“Both Israel and Iran wanted to stop war, equally! It was a great honor to destroy all nuclear facilities and abilities (from Iran) and then stop the war!” Wrote the president.
Speaking to reporters while traveling to the NATO summit in the Netherlands, Trump highlighted the importance of his intervention, stating that Israel retreated after his appeals.
“They didn’t do this foray this morning. Fortunately, it was very important. I thank you for that,” said the Republican. The American president also celebrated the immediate result of the truce: “They (Israel) had a lot of planes and were going to do something strong (in Iran), but they did not. We are happy for that. So the ceasefire is in force and I think we will keep it for a long time.”
Recognizing Trump’s decisive role in the conflict, UN Ambassador Danny Danon said that the US President “deserves the Nobel Peace Prize” for the efforts that resulted in the truce between Israel and Iran.
“I think we should thank him for his leadership and the decisions he has made, and recognize the efforts of the United States,” said Danon.
Ceasefire and tension in the air
The US ceasefire agreement was announced by Trump on Monday night twelve days after direct clashes between Israel and Iran. According to international agencies, the agreement was mediated by Qatar, which acted at Washington’s request to facilitate dialogue with Tehran. The ceasefire was reached hours after a series of attacks and retaliation, including against US bases, and was accepted by both countries after Trump’s diplomatic intervention.
The director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (AIEA), Rafael Grossi, praised the ceasefire and defended the resumption of cooperation between Tehran and the agency, assessing that “this step could lead to a diplomatic solution for the long-time dispute over the nuclear program.”
Nevertheless, regional tension seems to follow high. In the early afternoon of Tuesday, Iran’s atomic energy agency announced that the country was ready to immediately resume the enrichment of uranium as part of its nuclear program. “Iran’s nuclear program will be resumed without interruption and we are ready to restart enrichment – our program will not stop,” said the Iranian body, signaling the continuity of strategic disputes.
The regime’s decision gained new weight in the face of information disclosed by the The New York Times also this Tuesday. According to the newspaper, a preliminary US intelligence report indicates that the bombings made by Americans and Israel against Iranian nuclear facilities resulted only in a delay of a few months in the atomic program of the country. The document, quoted by the publication, details that US forces managed to seal two nuclear centers, but did not destroy underground structures, allowing Iran to preserve much of its ability to enrich uranium.
