In the note, Itamaraty vehemently condemned Israel’s offensive and, more recently, from the United States, against Iranian nuclear facilities. The chairman of the Foreign Relations Commission of the House of Representatives, Filipe Barros (PL-PR), said on Monday (24) that the position of the Brazilian government about the conflict between Israel and Iran is “aligned with the Tehran regime.” The statement refers to the note issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) on Sunday (23), condemning attacks on nuclear facilities in Iran. In the note, Itamaraty “vehemently” the offensives of Israel and, more recently, from the United States, against Iranian nuclear facilities. According to MRE, these actions violate the sovereignty of Iran, the United Nations Charter and Standards of the International Atomic Energy Agency (AIEA). The text also warns of the risks of radioactive contamination and environmental disasters, highlighting the threat to the health of civilian populations. For Deputy Filipe Barros, however, “the destruction of the Iranian nuclear program was desired by much of the world, mainly by Europe and the Arab League.” According to him, “while the head of European Union diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, urged the parties to return to the negotiating table, Brazil condemned US and Israel for allegedly violating Iranian sovereignty.” Barros also said that the US attack on three Iranian nuclear power plants last Saturday (22) was a “brave and necessary act.” He argued that Israel “is doing the dirty service desired by Europeans and Arabs” by trying to prevent the development of weapons of mass destruction by Iran. Research, however, diplomats heard by the G1 state that Brazil has sought to remain alongside international law and the peaceful solution of conflicts. According to these sources, Brazilian diplomacy has not silenced in the face of clear violation of international standards, including Israel’s recent actions in the Gaza Strip, West Bank, Lebanon and now in Iran.
