An elderly man was rescued west of Türkiye during a fire caused by scorching temperatures, strong winds, and dry weather that reach parts of Europe. The fire consumed the house of the wheel that was in a wheelchair, and had to be carried by one of the firefighters.
Forest fires in the Izmir Turkish Coastal Province, in the Aegean Sea, devastated areas of forest in the country for the second day in a row. Several villages and neighborhoods were emptied, affecting 50,000 residents.
Heat wave in other parts of the continent
A record number of heat alerts was issued in France, while the country, and other southern and east European parts, remain under the effect of scorching temperatures. 84 of the 96 regions of France, known as departments, are currently on orange alert, the second highest.
The Climate Minister has classified the situation as unprecedented, and alerts are also in force in parts of Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom and Balkan countries, including Croatia. The countries of the Iberian Peninsula had the hottest June days ever registered over the weekend. El Granado, in Andalusia, recorded a temperature of 46ºC on Saturday (28), while 46.6ºC were scheduled in the city of Mora, downtown Portugal, on Sunday (29). Meteorologists say the heat wave peak should be in the middle of the week.
Many countries have put emergency medical services ready and are warning people to stay at home as much as possible. Two hundred French schools have been closed.
