European Union parliamentarians presented a motion of censorship against Ursula Von Der Leyen, chairman of the European Commission, after accusations that she concealed messages exchanged with Pfizer CEO during the negotiation of vaccines against Covid-19.
The case, revealed by the international press, involves suspicions of lack of transparency in conducting the contracts signed in 2021.
More than 70 deputies have already signed the request – enough number for the theme to be formally debated by the European Parliament. For dismissal to advance, however, it will be necessary to support at least two thirds of parliamentarians, about 490 votes.
The crisis began after a report in The New York Times indicating that Ursula conducted part of the negotiations directly with the Pfizer executive, through text messages that were not disclosed to the public.
The refusal to deliver the content of the conversations motivated a lawsuit. European justice has determined that messages be shared, citing the need to guarantee transparency in the acts of the public power.
