British GP home stars and Kubica’s Le Mans win

Lando Norris, George Russell, Lewis Hamilton and Ollie Bearman will head to their home grand prix at Silverstone in different states of mind.

Russell is arguably vying with Max Verstappen as the driver of the Formula 1 season so far following his brilliant victory in Montreal, Norris has to bounce back from a sequence of errors that have handed the championship initiative to McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri, and Hamilton is still on the roller coaster ride of his first Ferrari season. Rookie Bearman will probably arrive under the least pressure but will be looking forward to his first British Grand Prix.

We hear from all four in our preview, which also covers Silverstone Museum’s special F1 75 exhibition, and speak to two of the British rising stars set to compete at the front of the F2 field: Red Bull junior Arvid Lindblad and Williams academy member Luke Browning.

Martin Brundle had many good days at Silverstone and he helps Autosport pick out the best drives of his long and illustrious career, while Paul Fearnley looks back at one of the craziest F1 races the Northamptonshire venue has ever hosted: the 1975 British GP.

Although the race didn’t make his list, Brundle was a winner of the Le Mans 24 Hours. The 93rd running of the world’s greatest endurance contest remained in doubt until the final minutes. Robert Kubica added another chapter to his remarkable story since his 2011 rally crash by taking victory alongside Yifei Ye and Phil Hanson in AF Corse’s satellite Ferrari 499P.

Gary Watkins and Stephen Lickorish were there and explain how the yellow Ferrari made it a hat-trick of Le Mans wins for the legendary Italian marque in our special report, which also covers the closely fought LMP2 and LMGT3 categories.

Elsewhere in the issue, we take a look at the British Touring Car Championship round at Thruxton amid some arguments concerning the straightline speed of certain cars, catch up with former Super Touring star Anthony Reid, and pick out some of the highlights from recent UK events in our 17-page National section.
