The 19 Brazilian tourists who had been in prison since Wednesday (25) in a snowfall in Chile were rescued on the night of Thursday (26). The operations lasted about 12 hours. In all, 59 people were found without injury by the Chilean authorities.
The rescue was made by the Disaster Risk Management Committee (COGRID) of the municipality of San Pedro do Atacama and had the support of the Fire Department and the Chilean Army, as well as other authorities.
They traveled in cars in a group of 27 people when a truck lost control and was crossed on the road. The accumulated ice prevented the vehicles from traveling. The Chilean authorities said everyone spent the night inside a bus and that they are well.
