Argentina will judge the default involved in the bombing

by Marcelo Moreira

The Federal Court of Argentina ordered on Thursday (26) that a judgment of ten Lebanese and Iranian citizens, accused of participation in the headquarters of the Israelite Argentine Mutual Association (Amia), the most deadly terrorist attack in the country, occurred in 1994.

According to information from the Clarín newspaper, the decision was the federal judge Daniel Rafecas, head of the Federal Criminal and Correctional Court No. 3 of the Federal Capital.

The request for trial had been made by the Federal Public Prosecution Service, in the light of a new law on dismissal judgments passed by the Argentine Congress this year.

“This is a crime that had devastating effects on the national territory, carried out through an internationally classified method as a terrorist attack and the use of a bomb car, which responds to a standard of systematic and organized violence against an identifiable civilian population, in this case the Argentine Jewish community,” said the Federal Prosecutor in the request.

Rafecas claimed in the order that the defendants “are fully aware that they are sought and never responded to requests for extradition.”

Today’s decision determines the judgment of:

  • There Fallahijan (Minister of Intelligence of Iran at the time of the attack)
  • Ali Akbar Velayati (Iran’s Foreign Minister in 1994)
  • Mohsen Rezai (former commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard)
  • Ahmad Vahidi (former Minister of Defense of Iran)
  • Hadi Soleimanpour (former Irano Embaixador in Argentina)
  • Mohsen Rabbani (former cultural joint of the Iranian embassy)
  • Ahmad Reza Asghari (former Secretary of the Embassy)
  • Salman Raouf Salman (head of operations of Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah)
  • Abdallah Salman (brother of Salman Raouf)
  • Hussein Mounir Mouzannar (Lebanese businessman)

In April last year, room II of the Federal Court of Criminal Cassation attributed to Iran the responsibility for the bombing of the love, which killed 85 people in 1994, as well as another terrorist attack that occurred two years earlier at the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires, which had left 29 dead.

The President of the Court, Judge Carlos Mahiques, said the two attacks were a political and strategic decision of the Iranian regime and were executed by Hezbollah, “which acted under the inspiration, organization, planning and financing of state and parastatal organizations subordinate to the Aiatollas government.”
