Israeli forces killed at least 40 Palestinians on Tuesday (24) in different parts of the Gaza Strip, according to local doctors and sources. The attacks took place hours after the announcement of a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, increasing the frustration of the Palestinian civilians waiting for a truce.
Part of the deaths occurred in Nusirat, in the center of the territory, where hundreds of people were trying to reach a food distribution center. Al-Awda Hospital received 19 dead and more than 140 injured. According to the medical team, all hit by shots.
The army of Israel said that a agglomeration was identified near the Netzarim corridor’s military zone and is investigating the reports of civilian victims. The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which organizes part of the US -supported deliveries, said there was no incident near its distribution point.
Another 21 people died in attacks in the south and north of the Gaza Strip. Ten in a house in the Sabra neighborhood, in the capital, and eleven in Khan Youis. According to Israel, Hamas armed groups use residential areas as a shield. The group denies.
The tension grew after the announcement of the ceasefire between Tel Aviv and Tehran, made by US President Donald Trump. Palestinians saw in the agreement a chance of pause in Gaza, which did not happen. “Everyone made agreement. Only people who keep dying,” said Adel Farouk, 62, a resident of the city of Gaza. “The whole world turned our backs on us.”
Instead of truce, new leaflets were launched by Israeli planes ordering the evacuation of areas in the north. Residents were directed to the south of the territory. “To go back is to risk your life,” the text said.
Humanitarian aid deliveries are still concentrated in areas protected by Israeli forces. The UN criticizes the model, calls risky and says it hurts basic principles of impartiality. “It’s a deadly trap,” said Philippe Lazzarini, head of the UN Agency for Palestinian refugees (Unrwa), at a press conference in Berlin.
Behind the scenes, Hamas gives signs that he can resume negotiations by a ceasefire. Sources close to the group told Reuters that there is openness to discuss proposals that lead to the withdrawal of Israel from Gaza and the end of the war. Israel, on the other hand, requires the total dismantling of Hamas. The group says it will not be disarmed, but agrees to discuss the liberation of hostages.
The war began on October 7, 2023, when Milicians led by Hamas attacked Israeli territory, killing 1,200 people and hostage, according to Israeli government data. Since then, air and terrestrial attacks have left about 56,000 dead in the Gaza Strip, according to the Local Health, managed by Hamas.
